At Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Civic Association, we are neighbors working together to preserve our quality of life.

Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Civic Association Membership 

Major Accomplishments:

  • Advocated for the revitalization of Iverson Mall.
  • Participated in the planning and development of the Hillcrest Heights Community Center.
  • Initiated action for the planning and monitoring of the renovation of Benjamin Stoddert Middle School and Hillcrest Heights Elementary School.
  • Established a relationship with Prince George's County Public Safety Officials (police officers) to help reduce criminal activity and the safety of our community.

These are just a few reasons why members of the community should belong to the association.

Standing Committees and Duties

Membership Committee – Duties of the Membership Committee shall be:

  • To coordinate the work of the Block Representatives.
  • To recruit members for the Association.
  • To maintain a current membership roster/mailing list.
  • To notify members regarding the payment of dues.

Public Relations Committee – Duties of the Public Relations Committee shall be:

  • To distribute information to community residents on the Associations’ work in the Community.
  • To promote the Association and to encourage participation and membership from community residents.
  • To develop flyers and public service media announcements to promote the Associations’ fund raising and community events.

Community Concerns Committee – Duties of the Community Concerns Committee shall be:

  • To address issues of concern, that affects the general welfare of the Community.
  • To direct those concerns and/or complaints to the proper agency or person for attention and resolution.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and the Executive Committee.

Education Committee – Duties of the Education Committee shall be:

  • To review the quality of education offered by the schools in the Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Community.
  • To annually contact each school in the area for the purpose of determining specific needs.
  • To maintain contact with other groups concerned with the quality of education offered.
  • To act on pertinent issues concerning education while keeping the membership of the Association informed.
  • To represent and testify before the School Board and other agencies relative to educational matters.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and the Executive Committee.

Newsletter Committee – Duties of the Newsletter Committee shall be:

  • To develop, prepare, and review articles for inclusion in the newsletter.
  • To finalize and distribute the Civic News.
  • To manage the publication of the Civic News on the HMHCA website.
  • To promote the Association's programs in the Community.
  • To mail the Newsletter to the membership, local schools, the business community and place copies in various public locations throughout the Community.
  • To bring to the membership any new changes to the Constitution and Bylaws.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and the Executive Committee in performing these duties.

Scholarship Committee – Duties of the Scholarship Committee shall be:

  • To manage and administer the scholarship funds.
  • To accept and review requests for financial assistance from qualified students.
  • To make recommendations for scholarship awards to the Executive Committee.
  • To organize an event to properly recognize scholarship award recipients.
  • To maintain records on scholarship award recipients to facilitate and establish a historical base.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and the Executive Committee in performing these duties.

Amenities Committee – Duties of the Amenities Committee shall be:

  • To extend and acknowledge special events in the Community as directed by the President or the Executive Committee.
  • To welcome new residents to the neighborhood.
  • To inform new neighbors about the Association and its purpose in the Community.
  • To mail sympathy and get well cards as appropriate to Association members and community residents to express the Association’s concern for those persons and families.
  • To acknowledge special events and achievements of individual members.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and the Executive Committee in performing these duties. 

Bylaws Committee – Duties of the Bylaws Committee shall be:

  • To receive all motions to amend the Constitution.
  • To receive all proposed amendments to the Bylaws.
  • To report on the proposed amendments at said regular meeting, which action may be taken on the amendment proposed in the original motion.
  • To propose a substitute motion if required.
  • To bring to the membership any proposed new changes to the Constitution and Bylaws.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and Executive Committee in performing these duties.

Planning and Fundraising Committee – Duties of the Planning and Fundraising Committee shall be:

  • To plan social and fundraising events for the Association with the approvals of the Executive Committee.
  • To draw from the membership for any special event which involves detailed work and planning.
  • To assist the President in planning for programs for general meetings that will be educational and informative for the membership.

Community Youth Committee – Duties of the Community Youth Committee shall be:

  • To plan and administer programs designed to attract, serve and guide the young people of the Community.
  • To organize and sponsor youth related activities and provide adult supervision for the same.
  • To draw from the membership for assistance in conducting special events.
  • To properly consult and coordinate with the President and the Executive Committee in performing these duties.
